If it was up to two-time UAAP champion JD Cagulangan, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers should hang all-time great Kevin Quiambao’s jersey from the rafters.

“Ibang klase talaga si KQ. Deserve na i-retire ‘yung jersey niya sa La Salle,” Cagulangan said in an interview with the Starting Line Up.

Renren Ritualo, who led the Green Archers to four straight titles from 1998-2001, was the last DLSU men’s basketball player to receive a jersey retirement after legends Kurt Bachman and Lim Eng Beng.

For Cagulangan, KQ should be forever immortalized by the Taft-based squad for what he delivered to the team in the last two years.

“Ibang klase si KQ. G.O.A.T [Greatest of All Time] talaga si KQ para sa’kin,” the 24-year-old spoke while also admitting that during the course of Season 87, UP held drills specifically on how to defend Kevin Quiambao.

JD also defended KQ from the negative feedback he received throughout the course of the season, marveling at the latter’s work ethic.

“Marami naghe-hate kay KQ, marami siyang bashers na marami silang sinasabi sa labas [ng court], pero 'yung work ethic nung tao. Nandoon [kapag] gusto niyang mangyari to’ tatrababuhin niya talaga,” he bared.

Now, both former collegiate stars are taking their rivalry in the pro basketball scene specifically in the Korean Basketball League.

A day after the heartbreaking loss, Quiambao confirmed he will take his talents overseas and join the Goyang Sono Skygunners. Cagulangan navigated the same path but instead signed with the Suwon KT Sonicboom.
