Season 85 Rookie-MVP Angel Canino was rushed to the hospital via an ambulance from the Smart Araneta Coliseum after La Salle beat UST in five sets in UAAP Season 87.
La Salle ace Angel Canino was rushed to the hospital aboard an ambulance following their thrilling 5-set win over the UST Golden Tigresses in UAAP Season 87 Saturday, following complaints of dizziness.
Canino, who scored 27 points and was named Player of the Game, did not even finish La Salle’s hymn as she was immediately escorted out of the playing court and into a waiting ambulance as soon as the Lady Spikers confirmed their win.
After the game, La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said that Canino was taken care of due to dizziness and an inadvertent clash with Shevana Laput early in set 4. Canino took her time in getting up after the collision where Laput’s knee made contact with her neck.
Medical personnel were quick to rush to Canino’s side after Amie Provido scored the last point on a kill block on Reg Jurado to finish the game, 16-14.

“Actually, after the game syempre, emotional [siya]. Actually, kasi naapektuhan din siya nung tinamaan siya ni Shevana sa batok,” said Orcullo of Canino.
“Medyo parang nahilo, so, yun nga, after the game, although naging emotional, before pa, sinasabi pa sa amin na si Angel, medyo hindi maganda yung [nararamdaman] kaya kinuha na agad nung mga PT namin at nung doctor namin. So, hopefully maging maayos. Hindi naman maging malala yung tama sakanya,” he added.
Canino continued to carry the heavy load of scoring for La Salle despite the collision.
However, in set 4, she spent a great deal of the latter part of the canto on the bench where she was tended to by medical personnel.
La Salle returns to action on Wednesday when the Lady Spikers face the surging Ateneo Blue Eagles still at the Big Dome.
The Lady Spikers currently tout a 6-3 record and are tied for second place with the FEU Lady Tamaraws.
