First-year player Celine Marsh was the epitome of efficiency for the NU Lady Bulldogs when she gained playing time against the UE Lady Warriors, as the defending champions bounced back in emphatic fashion in round 2 of UAAP Season 87.

Coming from a loss against Adamson the last time out, Marsh was determined to show out for NU head coach Sherwin Meneses when she got the chance to show her mettle on the taraflex.

Despite playing in just one set, Marsh ended with seven points, built on an efficient 7-of-18 on attacks.

After seeing her team struggle in their loss over the weekend, Marsh was dead-set on going back to the basics and going all out.

“Yung mindset ko na lang po sa game [against UE] is give my all. Since kasi yung previous game namin, parang ang gulo po ng team, ng galaw sa team so, yung mindset po namin ngayon is laruin lang po namin yung volleyball and, give all your best,” said Marsh.

The wing spiker is the one of the few holdovers from the latest batch of graduates from NU-Nazareth School, with others finding their place in other schools, like UP’s Kianne Olango and Yesha Noceja.

Finding herself among a stacked NU lineup that still has Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Vange Alinsug, Marsh is content to stay ready for the team. Especially with Meneses’ mentality when it comes to his bench, the young gun is hopeful to get opportunities more often.

“Based sa sinasabi ni Coach Sherwin samin is, yung gingawa po namin sa loob ng court is pare pareho lang naman. Yung ano na lang po sakin is, yung goal ko po sa sarili ko, since pareho lang naman po yung ginagawa po namin is, i-set aside yung pressure kasi pag sine-set aside ko po yung pressure, nalalabas yung laro,” she said.

In the meantime, Marsh is delighted to simply have the chance to share the court with the best of the best in her team.

Being able to play with the likes of Belen, Solomon, Alinsug, and playmaker Lams Lamina, Marsh is able to learn their mindset and hopefully keep them to herself even when her seniors leave the Lady Bulldogs’ den.

“Feel ko, I’m lucky na naabutan ko sila Ate Belle, Ate Lams, Ate Aly and ibang mga seniors. Yung nakukuha ko pong learnings sakanila is yung tapang po sa paglalaro and yung mindset nila every game,” said Marsh.

Marsh and the rest of the NU Lady Bulldogs have two more games left in elimination and they are a win away from a twice-to-beat advantage. They face the Ateneo Blue Eagles next on Sunday, April 13, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
