He earned it. He deserves it.
Stories about the Blue Eagles for the entirety of Season 85 pretty much revolved around names like Tab Baldwin, Ange Kouame, Dave Ildefonso, Forthsky Padrigao and their top recruit Kai Ballungay. Being the main cogs that drive the team forward, those guys for sure deserved the attention they got.
With the others staying in the background, playing a supporting role, it wasn’t until in the last two games of the season when ADMU’s no. 24 put people on notice that he also deserves a share of the spotlight. Yes, we’re referring to Sean Quitevis, who wreaked defensive havoc in Games 2 and 3 of the Finals to help the Blue Eagles reclaim the championship versus the Fighting Maroons. The type of effort he displayed was simply impossible to go unnoticed.
Even in practice, he has brought the same intensity and it proved beneficial to ADMU’s cause, according to incumbent team captain BJ Andrade.
“Siguro sa practice kami gumaling kasi may mga defenders kami na sobrang pisikal. Katulad ni Sean Quitevis, grabe 'yun. Grabe sila bumantay”
Without a doubt, Tab Baldwin recognized what Quitevis brings to the table, which is why the 4-time UAAP champion tactician has chosen his hard-nosed role player to be one of the team captains of Ateneo next season. You read that right, Sean Quitevis will become Blue Eagles co-captain for Season 86. According to Coach Tab, Quitevis' partner-in-crime will most likely be Chris Koon.
We can just imagine how thankful the PAREF Springdale product must be for this opportunity. Especially considering the journey he took just to be part of this championship squad. Cut twice from the lineup before becoming a legit factor in the championship, Quitevis' relentless play is symbolic of his resilience in trying to make the Ateneo roster.
All things considered, Sean Quitevis definitely deserves all the praise and recognition he’s getting right now.
