Marcio Lassiter makes the go-ahead basket for the San Miguel Beermen, as they make a fourth-quarter comeback and win their Commissioner's Cup opener against the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Marcio Lassiter delivered in crunch time, sinking the game-winning jumper with 2.9 seconds remaining to lift the San Miguel Beermen past the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 107-104, in their PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup opener on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Lassiter’s heroics capped a stunning comeback, as the Beermen erased a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit. He was named Player of the Game after finishing with 15 points on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting clip, along with three rebounds and two assists.
The Beermen also got key contributions from newcomers Andreas Cahilig, who scored 12 points on a perfect 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and Juami Tiongson, who added eight points and five assists.
While Phoenix’s Donovan Smith dominated with 37 points, and Tyler Tio and Jason Perkins combined for 44, Lassiter’s clutch shot proved decisive as San Miguel began its title defense in dramatic fashion.
