Veteran coach Tim Cone believes Justin Brownlee’s upcoming campaign in the Indonesian Basketball League will keep his ward in tip-top shape once he returns for Gilas and Barangay Ginebra.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone is giving resident import Justin Brownlee a tap in the back as the 35-year-old stalwart will bring his talents to Indonesia.
After returning to Gilas Pilipinas in the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers, Brownlee confirmed he will see action in the Indonesian Basketball League.
“Yeah, I will be playing abroad,” bared Brownlee, who was among the spectators inside the PhilSports Arena during the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference gameday on Thursday.
Ginebra’s resident import cannot reveal the details of his overseas stint, which include the team he will suit up for, but he shared that he will be leaving the country on Sunday.
Upon catching wind of the development, Cone is showing full support to Brownlee’s career move.
“We're happy for him. Gives him some extra income and helps him stay sharp and in shape,” the multi-titled tactician said.
Brownlee could also see a familiar face, former PBA import Lester Prosper of the Terrafirma Dyip, who has worn the flag of Indonesia and is playing for Dewa United Banten in the professional circuit.
Still, expect Brownlee to reunite with the Gin Kings in the near future.
“He'll be back for Ginebra in the next import conference, or in June for Gilas,” Cone said.
The Indonesian trip will help Brownlee stay in top condition, as opportunities for competitive action in the country prove to be scant for him in the coming months.
After all, the PBA is slated to have no import-laden conference for a few more months.
Not to mention that Brownlee’s next Gilas call-up is in June, as part of the buildup for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Latvia, which will run from July 2 to 7.
