Rare win against the reigning Olympic and world champion.
In a rare occurrence, EJ Obiena outjumped world record holder and arguably pole vault GOAT Mondo Duplantis.
The Asian champion secured silver in the Diamond League Monaco leg on Saturday after clearing 5.82m.
Mondo Duplantis surprisingly only jumped 5.72m. The Swedish standout, who regularly jumps over six-meter bars, failed his attempt at 5.92m twice and 6.02m once.
Christopher Nilsen, who went down in the world rankings after being overtaken by Obiena, redeemed himself with the gold medal finish after being the lone pole vaulter to clear 5.92m.
Obiena has yet to miss a podium in nine outdoor tournaments this year. The pride of Tondo, Manila bagged three golds, silvers, and bronze respectively. On June 10, Obiena cleared six meters for the first time in his career.
