Joeven Dela Vega and the PGJC-Navy Sea Lions continue to cruise in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference after blowing past the VNS-Nasty Griffins, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21, at the PhilSports Arena Sunday.

Dela Vega carried the cudgels once again with 20 points built on 16 attacks, two blocks, and an ace for the Sea Lions, who surged to their fifth-straight win for a 5-1 record.

Peter Quiel towered above the net with four of his team’s seven blocks on his way to 14 points.

PGJC-Navy captain Greg Dolor pitched in eight markers, while Omar Lioc and Marvin Villanueve contributed six and five points, respectively.

The Sea Lions barely felt any resistance in the first and second frames before the Griffins put up a tough challenge in the third set.

Trailing 15-17 in the decisive frame, PGJC-Navy leaned on Quiel, who delivered three points in a 6-0 run that tipped the scales to their favor. Sea Lions then went on cruise control the rest of the way.

VNS-Nasty sank to seventh place with a 1-4 slate.

No one from the Griffins scored in double figures as Jester Bornel paced the losing side with seven points.

PGJC-Navy aims to extend its winning momentum when it takes on powerhouse Criss Cross, while VNS-Nasty seeks to get back on track when it faces Maverick on April 19, Friday.

Both matches will be held at the Ynares Sports Arena.
