Casiey Dongallo's highly anticipated debut for the Alas Pilipinas will have to wait.

Dongallo, who had a standout rookie stint for the UE Lady Warriors, is set to miss the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup due to a “fractured bone on her right wrist”, according to UE coach Dr. Obet Vital.

“Actually I just spoke to Ma’am Hollie [Reyes]. She was supposed to be in the top 14. Spoke to coach Jorge [Edson Souza de Brito] right now to verify that fact. Pero unfortunately, she injured herself,” Vital told One Sports.

“So for now, she'll be off and won't be able to participate this time around. But there will be many other opportunities in the future. 'Yun na nga lang, sayang. At least she will be okay,” he added.

Dongallo attended the training session of the national team on Friday afternoon, May 17, at the Gameville Ball Park, wearing a cast on her right hand.

Vital said the promising outside hitter sustained the injury on Thursday, May 16, when she slipped “at home” and attempted to break her fall with her right hand, resulting in a hyperextension.

“She slipped [and used] her hand to stop her fall, to break her fall. So, na hyperextend. Akala lang namin it's something minor, but it's okay,” he said.

Vital stated that Dongallo will need to wait four to six weeks before removing the cast, after which she will undergo a medical reassessment.

“The doctor said na she'll recover soon enough. So hopefully, the doctor said, four to six weeks, take off the cast, do the x-ray, and see how it's healing. If it's healed by then, she starts the recovery and PT process,” he said.

The AVC Challenge Cup tournament is scheduled to begin next week, running from May 22 to 29 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
