Shams has become a well-known NBA presence over the past decade, initially breaking news as a teenager and worked under mentor-turned-rival Adrian Wojnarowski.
From student to master.
Shams Charania announced he will be joining sports cable network ESPN as its newest senior NBA insider, filling up the void left by sports journalist Adrian Wojnarowski.
"I am honored to join ESPN as the company's Senior NBA Insider," Charania wrote on a social media post on Tuesday, October 9 (PH Time).
"I can't wait to be part of an incredible group of colleagues at ESPN and serve the audience worldwide."
In the aftermath of this shocking news, Charania was the first to break the blockbuster trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle, Donte DiVicenzo, and Keita Bates-Diop.
Known as ‘Shams’ to many, his journey to replacing Woj as the network’s senior NBA Insider has been impressive.
The 30-year-old started his career as a reporter for RealGM before joining Yahoo Sports in 2015. Under the wings of Wojnarowski, he learned from the very person he would eventually replace as the two worked together for two years.
After Woj left to join ESPN in 2017, Charania moved to The Athletic and Stadium where he further developed his reputation as one of the top-tier reporters in breaking NBA news worldwide.
