Support poured in for 7-foot-3 big man Kai Sotto as he revealed that he suffered an ACL injury during the Koshigaya Alphas’ Japan B.LEAGUE game against the Seahorses Mikawa last January 5.

Sotto, who was just nine points away from breaching the 1,000 point mark in the B.LEAGUE, played less than four minutes in the game before he had to leave the court because of a non-contact injury.

It was later revealed that he tore his ACL, which meant that he now faces a recovery period of upwards of six months.

Understanding his pain, players and coaches alike shared messages of support for Sotto, who will now have to take time away from the game to recover, even after a sting of good games for the Alphas in recent weeks.

“Prayers pouring in,” wrote Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood.

“Get well soon my brotha!” said Meralco’s Chris Newsome, who also plays in the national team with Sotto.

FEU head coach Sean Chambers also encouraged Sotto after the tough setback, along with Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga.

“Prayers, young man. Stay strong, continue to get the bag,” said Chambers.

“You will be back stronger and better than ever! Get well soon Kai,” added Arespacochaga.

Women’s basketball import Jack Animam also wished Sotto a speedy recovery, while Dave Ildefonso assured Sotto of his support.

“Get well soon brad. Nasa likod mo parin kami kahit ano mangyari,” wrote Ildefonso.

Among others who offered their prayers were San Miguel Beermen’s June Mar Fajardo, Converge FiberXers’ Jordan Heading, and Blackwater’s Tyrus Hill.

Even Akari Chargers libero Dani Ravena, sister of Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, commented her support.

“Prayers up Kai,” she said.
