Philippine women’s national futsal team makes it to the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup thanks to a key draw against Uzbekistan.
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine women’s national futsal team punched their ticket to the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup after ending up as the best third-placed team in the qualifiers which wrapped up in Uzbekistan over the weekend.
The Filipinas, who fell in their last game against Australia, 1-2, earned just enough points to finish ahead of Myanmar, finishing the tournament with four points and taking the last spot for the regional tournament slated in China in May.
The Philippines ended up with a 1W-1D-1L result which meant that they finished with four points after their win over Group C fifth placer Kuwait wasn’t counted due to an uneven number of teams among the groups.
It was their crucial 3-3 draw against host Uzbekistan, and Myanmar’s first two losses in Group D that sealed the deal for the Filipinas.
Despite superior goal difference for Myanmar, the Philippines’ shared point with Uzbekistan was the difference where Judy Connolly equalized late after Lyudmila Karachik pulled the hosts ahead, 3-2, in that match.
This is the Philippines’ debut in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup.
The tournament is set to be a qualifying tiff for the 2025 FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup which the Philippines will host in November.
