Maddie Madayag officially wrapped up her first international stint with Japan’s Kurobe Aqua Fairies after a full season in the 2024–25 SV.League.
Maddie Madayag has officially closed the chapter on her maiden overseas stint, bidding farewell to the Kurobe Aqua Fairies after a full season in Japan’s SV.League.
The former Ateneo standout announced her departure in a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday, thanking the team for the opportunity to fulfill a long-held dream.
“And that's a wrap! Thank you @kurobeaquafairies for the chance to live out one of my dreams. Although a different shade, it's been a pleasure donning a blue jersey once again. Peace out, #19,” wrote Madayag.
Madayag, who wore jersey No. 19 for Kurobe, became the third homegrown Filipina to compete in Japan’s top-flight league, following Jia De Guzman with the Denso Airybees and Sachi Minowa for Osaka Marvelous.
The Aqua Fairies ended the 2024–25 season with a 15-29 record, finishing 11th overall in the 12-team field.
While the next step in Madayag’s career remains uncertain, she did join the recent Korean V-League (KOVO) Asian Quota Draft, signaling her intent to explore further international opportunities.
