Team USA’s Lee Kiefer bags her second-straight Olympic gold medal in the women's individual foil event after winning against teammate Lauren Scruggs
Lee Kiefer made history by winning back-to-back gold medals in foil fencing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, defeating teammate Lauren Scruggs 15-6 in the finals. Scruggs' silver medal marks the first Olympic medal for a Black fencer in an individual women's event for the United States.
Kiefer celebrated her victory with a joyful pirouette and dedicated her win to her late coach, Buckie Leach, who had guided her to gold in Tokyo. Kiefer's achievement makes her only the second American fencer to win gold in the same event twice, following Mariel Zagunis.
Kiefer and her husband, Gerek Meinhardt, a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, are both medical students at the University of Kentucky, currently on leave to pursue their Olympic dreams.
