Filipina Olympian fencer Sam Catantan exemplifies the spirit of gratitude by honoring her roots.
At just nine years old, Sam discovered her passion for fencing through the Quezon City Sports Enhancing Program (QC SEP), a grassroots initiative led by Quezon City District 1 Councilor Joseph Juico. This program became the foundation of her journey as an athlete.

Now at 22, Catantan continues to give back to the community that shaped her success.
In June 2024, she extended her support by offering free fencing training and donating new equipment from her university, Pennsylvania State University.

As the year draws to a close and a new one approaches, she was recently seen donating fencing gear to QC SEP Fencing—an act of kindness that sets an inspiring tone for the coming year.
Catantan made history as the first Filipina fencer to compete in the Olympics in 32 years, giving a remarkable fight and showcasing the resilience and determination that define her career.
“Getting up is not just about recovering from a fall; it's about embracing the journey of resilience, learning, and continuous improvement,” Catantan further reflected on her journey on Instagram.
Her thoughtful actions and inspiring words serve as a reminder of the value of perseverance, giving back, and starting fresh, motivating others to approach the new year with strength and gratitude.
The accomplished Filipina fencer is determined to make her return to the Olympic Games which will be held in Los Angeles by 2028.
