As Nesthy Petecio steps into the ring with every ounce of her strength and spirit, she carries not just her dreams but the hopes of her family, her community, and her beloved country.

As the final countdown to the Olympics begins, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist finds herself reflecting on the incredible journey that has brought her there.

From the tender age of 11, she stepped into the ring not just for the thrill of the fight but to support and uplift her family.

From the very beginning, her journey has been about more than winning medals or achieving personal glory. Every punch was a step toward a future where her family’s dreams could take flight.

The Filipina boxer was also plunged into a profound and painful depression. The ring, which had once been her sanctuary and a symbol of her dreams, became a haunting reminder of her heartbreak during the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, where she faced a controversial 2-3 defeat against China’s Yin Jun Hua in the opening round of the women’s featherweight division.

The two-time Olympian endured a painful scratch on her left eye during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament as well, which continued to trouble her as she fought relentlessly to secure her place in Paris.

Despite the difficult journey, Petecio’s resilience has shone brightly. Having overcome past adversities with strength and determination, Nesthy now resumes her pursuit of gold at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, stronger than ever.

After the Olympics, the veteran boxer has made a promise to herself by prioritizing her own happiness.

“Sa future Nesthy, promise ko sa’yo na mararanasan mo ‘yong buhay na gusto mo. After this, Mga challenges na nararanasan mo, mga pagod, lahat ng sakripisyo. Ie-enjoy natin ‘yong the rest na natitirang buhay natin,” vows Nesthy.

Nesthy Petecio will open her Paris Olympics campaign against India's Jaismine Lamboria in the round of 32 in the women's 57 kg class division.
