The streaking Beermen make it 11-straight wins.
There was no meltdown this time.
San Miguel did everything right from the get-go on the way to a lopsided 103-85 win over Magnolia in Game Two of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals Sunday night.
The Beermen set the tone early, zooming to a 31-16 advantage and refused to ease on the gas pedal from there to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Bennie Boatwright spearheaded the charge for San Miguel, dropping 23 of his 34 points in the first 24 minutes of action. He also had 10 rebounds and five assists.
Marcio Lassiter fired 11 points built on three triples on a night he moved fifth in the list for all-time three-pointers made.
“I’m happy we won. We just played as a team. We played as a unit,” said SMB coach Jorge Gallent.
The Hotshots, who nearly erased a 20-point deficit as they tried to turn the tide in the series opener, could not replicate the same thing this time.
Magnolia did propel an 8-0 run early in the fourth to trim a huge 44-72 third quarter deficit down to 17, 69-86, on Tyler Bey’s basket.
But the Beermen made sure there will be no letdown as they closed the match.
Bey paced the Hotshots with 22 points, 16 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Mark Barroca added 11 points.
