San Miguel and Magnolia, protagonists of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, stake their winning streaks in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.
With the PBA season 48 Philippine Cup playoffs fast approaching, results of every match from here on out have bigger implications.
At 7-0, San Miguel is the lone team which officially sealed a quarterfinal berth in what is shaping up to be an intense competition for the remaining playoff slots.
That said, check out this week’s set of games in the All-Filipino conference.
April 24 | Ninoy Aquino Stadium
NorthPort vs. Terrafirma - 4:30 p.m.
TNT vs. Phoenix - 7:30 p.m.
If there’s a time to push the panic button, it’s definitely now for NorthPort and Terrafirma, which share identical 4-5 win-loss records.
The Batang Pier slid to a fourth-straight loss (4-5) last week, while the Dyip are reeling from back-to-back defeats.
And if they want to improve their chances of making the playoffs, they have to come out victorious in their last two games.
April 26 | Smart Araneta Coliseum
Phoenix vs. Meralco - 4:30 p.m.
Magnolia vs. San Miguel - 7:30 p.m.
Friday’s double-header offers the clash of the hottest teams in the PBA right now.
San Miguel and Magnolia, protagonists of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, stake their winning streaks when they tackle each other at 7:30 p.m.
San Miguel formally clinched a seat in the playoffs with its seventh straight win on Sunday, April 21, but it doesn’t plan on slowing down.
Riding the crest of a four-game winning run, the Hotshots, at 5-2, share the same intention.
The game will also see an in-form Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca try to exact revenge on the Beermen, who beat Magnolia in six games in the best-of-seven finale last conference.
April 27 | Caloocan Sports Complex/Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center
Blackwater vs. NorthPort - 3:00 p.m. (Caloocan Sports Complex)
Converge vs. Ginebra - 6:15 p.m. (Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center)
With nothing exactly to lose, Converge is out to play the spoiler role as Ginebra eyes a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs.
At 6-3, Ginebra virtually clinched a quarterfinal berth.
But things are also not going to be a breeze for the Gin Kings as the FiberXers are on a high following a breakthrough win against Meralco on Sunday.
April 28 | PhilSports Arena
Meralco vs. Magnolia - 3:00 p.m.
San Miguel vs. NLEX - 6:15 p.m.
It doesn’t get any easier for Meralco following a heartbreaking loss to formerly-winless Converge.
The Bolts now face the daunting task of getting over the hump against an in-form Magnolia team.
Meralco, which currently sits at 11th spot with a 3-5 tally, would need all the help it can get as it looks to grab a seat in the playoffs.
