It took exactly one game for the four-point shot to have an effect in an official PBA game.

Down three with 10.3 seconds to go to open the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup, Magnolia import Glenn Robinson III tried to go for the jugular, attempting a four-point shot for the win against the Meralco Bolts.

But faced with the defense of Chris Newsome, Robinson III missed the four-pointer as the Bolts managed to hold on to a 99-94 victory.

“I knew we needed a three, and they added a four-point line so i figured why not go for the kill? Why not try to get the four-pointer?” he said.

“Unfortunately it didn’t go down, sometimes it’s like that but I felt like I had a good look at it,” Robinson III added.

A former NBA Slam Dunk champion and with 304 games of experience in the Association, Robinson III acknowledged the idea of the PBA’s four-point shot, saying it’s interesting for the fans.

But as for other leagues, say like the NBA, also adopting the rule, the former Indiana Pacer was not as favorable.

"Not really, I’m not a huge fan of it. I don’t think anybody really pays that much attention to it, but it’s a cool addition. We’ll play with it this year and see how it goes. I heard that it was in the All-Star game before, it’s something new, something exciting," he said.

"You never know what will catch on, but I’m not huge on it. I think it’s cool for the fans, but as players there’s not too many times that we actually think about ‘oh I’m gonna shoot this four-pointer instead of the three,'" Robinson III added.
