5 storylines that will define Game 6 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals

5 storylines that will define Game 6 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals
PBA

The aftermath of Game 5 of these PBA Finals has been chaotic to say the least: an injury scare, an actual injury, an end-of-series plot twist, and still lots of uncertainty. And there is at least one more game to play. Needless to say, Game 6 promises to be the most compelling, so we have listed five storylines to watch out for.

Powell can put his money where his mouth is

Once upon a time, Myles Powell declared himself to be the best import in this Commissioner’s Cup. He will get his chance to prove it in Game 6 — in a do-or-die game no less, and against Justin Brownlee of all people. He talked the talk. If he walks the walk, we might be heading to Bulacan for Game 7.

Zhu better to step up than Zhu

Zhu Songwei is the most gifted local Dragon, and he was missing-in-action in Game 5. A big bounce back will bode well for Bay Area, but can the feisty forward rise to the occasion?

Tinyente in the spotlight

The groin injury suffered by Ginebra point guard LA Tenorio appears severe enough for Tinyente’s Iron Man streak of 735 games to be in jeopardy. But we’re guessing Tenorio gives it a go — perhaps to inspire the Gin Kings and the crowd.

The return of the old reliables

Game 5 saw the resurgence of the otherwise struggling duo of Japeth Aguilar and Stanley Pringle, with the Fil-Am guard hitting timely treys and the Gilas mainstay finally looking spry and healthy. An encore would be huge for the Gin Kings with Tenorio likely to be limited.

Round 6 of Cone vs. Goorjian

The coaching battle between Tim Cone and Brian Goorjian has been as good as advertised. And Goorjian just threw Cone a curveball by activating Powell. Cone, after admitting to being “rudderless” and “without direction” against an importless Bay Area, will have to figure out the explosive American real quick.

So, will Ginebra end these Finals or will Bay Area extend? Your guess is as good as ours.
