Playing together, playing for one another.
For the first time ever, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers got a win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, and it took a superb showing from Kim Kianna Dy to secure the all-important W—the Cargo Movers’ fifth as against two defeats in the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The Cargo Movers looked poised to sweep the Flying Titans after taking the first two sets, 25-23, 25, 20. But then adversity started setting in, with Choco Mucho engineering a fierce third set fight back led by the relentless duo of Bea de Leon and Kat Tolentino and the excellent setting of Deanna Wong. To make matters worse, F2 Logistics also lost Ara Galang to injury and Myla Pablo to a bad case of cramps.
In other words, the tide was turning, and it was turning heavily against the Cargo Movers. Only, they didn’t fold. Instead, they fought back, fueled by an earnest desire to win for Galang and Pablo.
“Unfortunately nagka-cramps si Ate My, but we used it as motivation na rin,” said Dy after the game. “’Yung teammate natin ‘di na makalaro, so let’s play this game for them.”
That’s exactly what Dy and the rest of the Cargo Movers did: Play the game for their sidelined teammates. And leading the way was Dy, who finished the game with 23 points on 19 attacks, 2 blocks, and 2 aces, and took complete command of the fourth and final set. Old reliable Aby Maraño also came alive in that match-clinching set to help F2 Logistics finish off Choco Mucho, 25-23, 25, 20, 13-25, 25-11.
With the win, the Cargo Movers moved up to second place in the standings just behind the 6-1 Creamline Cool Smashers and solidified their chances of making it to the playoffs. They will next play the Army Black Mamba on Saturday, March 11, at the FilOil EcoOil Center.
