Wondering why Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis didn’t see action in Cignal HD Spikers’ 25-16, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 win over PLDT High Speed Hitters in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference on Sunday?

Shaq delos Santos said Gonzaga was attending to personal matters in the Philippine Army but will likely play in their game against the Creamline Cool Smashers on Saturday.

“Meron silang inaayos lang sa Army,” Delos Santos said after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “Let’s see sa next game namin. Hopefully maging OK this coming Saturday.”

As for Daquis, well, the amiable mentor didn’t have much.

“Hindi pa namin alam. Baka ngayong week magkaroon kami ng update sa kanya. Right now, andun pa siya so 'di pa namin alam,” Delos Santos said of Daquis, who got an invitation to a coaching camp in the United States.

The HD Spikers didn’t seem to have a problem without the two and scraped past the High Speed Hitters behind PVL Invitational Conference MVP Ces Molina, who finished with 20 points for Cignal.

Delos Santos is no longer surprised.

“Actually ‘yung mindset lang talaga, kung kailan kami nag-start hanggang last day ng training namin yesterday, ang sinasabi ko sa kanila kung sino andito, ‘yun ‘yung magpe-perform. ‘Yun ‘yung maglalaro,” he said.

“Dapat ibigay natin best natin. Better kung magkakaron ng magandang performance para pag nakabalik sila mas better.”

Cignal will take on the Cool Smashers, who are comming off a convincing win against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, in Batangas City.
