All hail the queens of the PVL!
The Creamline Cool Smashers are back on the mountaintop after a thrilling five-set win against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 22-25, 25-20, 29-27, 24-26, 15-12, in Game 2 of the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
In front of over 24,000 fans, the Flying Titans came out of the gates hot as they stormed to a lead as big as seven points in the first set.
The Cool Smashers would slowly chip into this lead, but their efforts were a little too late as they dropped the first set to the inspired Flying Titans.
The second set, meanwhile, was a different story for Creamline as it finally found its footing in the middle of the frame to secure a lead that it never relinquished despite repeated reprisals from Choco Mucho.
Come the third set, the Flying Titans and Cool Smashers would continue to deliver heavy blows against one another, eventually reaching 25-all.
In the end, it was the efforts of Tots Carlos and Bernadette Pons that sealed the crucial set win for Creamline.
Choco Mucho though would push Creamline to the brink after claiming the fourth set after another extended rally.
But, in the fifth set, fresher legs prevailed as coach Sherwin Meneses fielded Alyssa Valdez and Michele Gumabao, who combined for seven of Creamline's 15 points.
And, perhaps fittingly, it was Valdez who scored the championship point for the Cool Smashers as they completed a 15-0 conference sweep.
This is Creamline’s seventh title overall, continuing its dominance in the All-Filipino Conference by winning five of the last six crowns.
