MJ Phillips remains upbeat about the Petro Gazz Angels' title defense in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference despite going down with a leg injury.
The Petro Gazz Angels will be without the services of star middle blocker MJ Phillips during their opening game in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
Before the Angels’ match against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, Phillips was spotted wearing a leg brace on her left foot, which according to the PVL broadcast was a left foot contusion.
Speaking to reporters, the 6-foot middle blocker admitted not having a timeline yet for her recovery but remained positive about the development.
“No specific timeline right now. Just taking it day-by-day and just trying to get stronger,” said Phillips.
“I guess overuse, just playing a lot. It’s unfortunate, but unfortunately, like every athlete gets injured, so it’s just nothing I’m not used to,” she added.
Nonetheless, Phillips will cheer on her Petro Gazz squad, which is looking to defend their Reinforced Conference title.
“I’m good so far. I’m excited that PVL is starting up again and seeing great volleyball, especially since it's import season right now,” said Phillips.
“I’m excited because I finally get to see them live in action again. Practice could be a different environment, so I think all our hard work will show off in the court,” she added.
