Even without her best friend by her side, Wong feels Choco Mucho will go places this season.
When the news of Ponggay Gaston’s transfer broke out, Choco Mucho setter Deanna Wong was one of many who were surprised.
“It was quite a shock to us. I never imagined that we’d play against each other,” Wong told One Sports.
And now that her best friend is donning another jersey, the Flying Titan star bared how she feels. "Nakaka-miss siya honestly."
But that’s just the way it is in sports. Wong has since moved on from it, thinking this new chapter could light up their competitive fire.
“Siguro that's a healthy competition, seeing your best friend in another team. At least from there we can learn from each other, siya sa bagong team niya, kami naman sa bagong coaches namin,” said Wong, whose team welcomed a new coach in Dante Alinsunurin.
“Wishing her all the best in her endeavors naman. So kahit anong mangyari nandito naman ako, nandito kami to support her.”
With a new coach in Alinsunurin, who has helped the NU men’s volleyball program cop titles in the UAAP and Spikers’ Turf, Wong sees her team going places.
When asked about the fans' optimism for a deep Choco Mucho postseason run, Wong answered, “I’ve got a feeling as well naman. Really, really have a good feeling about it. Pero syempre hindi lang dapat sa salita. Kailangan din pagtrabahuhan.”
“'Yun nga bukod sa tiwala sa sarili we really have to trust each other and the system that the coaches are giving kasi syempre nandoon sila for a reason, to help and guide us.”
