The 2022 PVL season wasn’t too kind to the PLDT High Speed Hitters as they missed the podium in all three conferences. So, it's not surprising the team made several changes to its roster during the offseason.
PLDT star middle blocker Mika Reyes talked about PLDT’s retooling, as well as the adjustments they are making with the arrival of new coach Rald Ricafort. According to Reyes, PLDT is still in the process of adapting to Ricafort's system.
“So far, nasa process pa rin kami ng adjustment. In a short span of time, medyo mahirap din talaga i-adjust ‘yun agad," said Reyes. "So, we’re trying our best talaga na maka-adapt sa gustong mangyari ng mga bagong coaches namin.”
Despite the recalibration that her squad is going through, the former DLSU Lady Spiker is embracing the challenge of facing newly improved teams in the upcoming PVL All-Filipino tourney. The confidence is likely inspired by the arrival of Ricafort, who is fresh off a successful championship run in last year’s Reinforced Conference.
“This time mas challenging lang din kasi lahat nag-improve from last Reinforced Conference. I think mas magiging maganda ‘yung laban this conference,” Reyes added.
The High Speed Hitters are likely to put up a good fight this conference, more so with prized acquisition, Ysa Jimenez, who seems to have adjusted rather easily to her new environment. The former UST Tigress said the transition from college to the pros has been smooth, thanks to her teammates who have welcomed her with open arms.
“Ang gaan po dito sa team na ‘to. 'Pag naglalaro, walang sisihan. ‘Pag nagkamali ka, ituturo sa’yo ‘yung tama," said Jimenez. "Sobrang happy lang po ‘pag sa training at ‘pag naglalaro. Walang pressure.”
The PVL All-Filipino Conference is set to begin on February 4. We’ll see how the High Speed Hitters’ positive outlook will translate on the court.
