Noel Orcullo reminds La Salle players: Respect your opponents

The De La Salle Lady Spikers remain undefeated in UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball. They beat the University of the East [UE] Lady Red Warriors in straight sets on Wednesday. That left the squad in green as the only team with a spotless record at 4-0. But interim coach Noel Orcullo was dissatisfied.

He didn't like how his players treated their opponents.

"Masyado kaming nagkampante," Orcullo said after the match. "Once na 'di mo binigyan ng respect 'yung kalaban, ganyan 'yung lalaruin nila, may chance kayong talunin. 'Yun nga nangyari."

UE had a hot start, with the likes of Vanessa Bangayan bringing the fight to the Lady Spikers.

"Parang sinabayan lang 'yung laro ng kalaban 'Di kami nag-stick sa game plan," Orcullo noted.

La Salle pulled out two tight sets against UE, 25-20, 25-21, before finally dominating in the final frame, 25-14.

Orcullo though pointed out that the Lady Red Warriors outscored them in the spiking department by 10.

"'Yun ang laging sinasabi ko sa kanila. 'Di mawawala ang respeto sa kalaban, kahit sino 'yan," he said. "Buti sa third set, bumalik 'yung inaral nila, 'yung game plan. Bumalik 'yung respect."

The Lady Spikers hacked out the win with their great wall at the net, with 15 blocks compared to the Lady Red Warriors' two.

Thea Gagate was once again key for La Salle, with her 13 points coming off eight attacks and five blocks.

"Actually, 'di pa rin ako satisfied. We can do more," Orcullo said. "Dahil sa height namin, kayang kaya i-domina 'yung ibabaw."

He said La Salle can't afford to act the same against the Far Eastern University [FEU] Tamaraws this Saturday.

"Pagdating ng FEU [game], dapat walang makitang weakness," he said. "Siguradong delikado tayo."
