The Lady Falcons close the eliminations with back-to-back wins.
Fond of her playmaking skills on the court, some fans are beginning to call Louie Romero “The Magician,” but perhaps her best moniker is simply: team captain.
In their last win of the elimination round of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, the Adamson University Lady Falcons leaned on Romero to get a 25-22, 26-28, 25-15, 25-17 win over the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
The renowned setter orchestrated the Adamson offense like a masterful conductor with 21 excellent sets, while also notching 3 points off 1 attack and 2 aces.
It was not a perfect game, though, as the Lady Falcons faltered in the extended second set.
But like any good team leader, the captain of the volleybelles from San Marcelino took responsibility for her team’s shortcomings.
“Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kailangan ako ‘yung mag-step up sa team,” Romero said on the postgame interview. “Kailangan gawin ko ‘yung trabaho ko as a leader para sumunod lang ‘yung mga kasama ko.”
Her teammates did follow her cue—as the Lady Falcons took the third and fourth sets convincingly to seal the win against the gutsy Tamaraws.
Now, Adamson has all but officially set up a date with the defending champs, the National University Lady Bulldogs, in the Final Four.
Bearing a twice-to-win disadvantage, Romero is again ready to lead the way for the Lady Falcons. And they will begin with discipline in training and preparations. Like they have been doing all season.
“Training pa rin kami, tamang execution, saka 'yung viewing namin. Kailangan namin pag-aralan 'yung kalaban namin.”
