There’s no way he was doing something else but this.
A mini-earthquake ensued on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as the UP Fighting Maroons and the Ateneo Blue Eagles clashed anew for the second round of UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball. Once again, the Katipunan rivals lived up to the hype as they battled to another nail-biting finish, which UP won 65-60. It was a revenge victory for the Iskos as their lone loss in the tournament came courtesy of the Tab Baldwin-mentored squad.
UP captain CJ Cansino wasn't a part of the mini-earthquake as he was down with the flu and didn’t suit up. His absence was felt not only by the Fighting Maroons but the Ateneo fans as well, especially after he caused quite a stir with his “shush” gesture in round one. Still, Cansino made sure to support his teammates all the way from home.
Watching the game intensely in his room, Cansino was impressed with one Fighting Maroon in particular. Yep, Captain CJ sent UP point guard Gerry Abadiano some love and he made sure to share the moment through a couple of Instagram Stories.
First, he gave Abadiano props for pacing the Maroons with a game-high 22points.
“I love you, @austinabadiano,” Cansino wrote.
Second, Cansino got in a playful mode as he trolled Abadiano’s Taglish response during the latter’s Player of the Game interview.
“Alam naman natin ‘yang basketball, hindi naman ‘yan perfect. Magkakamali’t magkakamali kami, so importante lang na ibigay namin ‘yung best namin, gawin namin’yung outcome na magiging thankful kami,” Abadiano said.
“Cony na conyo,” Cansino quipped in his post.
Abadiano really came up big for his team as UP floor general JD Cagulangan was also out for the game.
On November 5, the 8-1 Fighting Maroons will hope to have a healthier roster as they take on the surging La Salle Green Archers.
