The NU Bulldogs and the DLSU Green Spikers made quick work of the UE Red Warriors and UP Fighting Maroons, respectively, in the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament.
De La Salle University remains a strong contender for the top spot in the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament after overpowering the University of the Philippines in straight sets, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, March 10.
The Green Spikers had to overcome a feisty Fighting Maroons squad in the first set, demonstrating exceptional performance towards the end to secure a narrow victory of 25-23, before dominating the second set effortlessly.
In the third set, UP managed to keep in step with La Salle, trimming the lead to one at 16-17. But after fielding their starters once more, the Green Spikers regained their composure to secure the victory.
Vince Maglinao led the way for La Salle with 14 points and 10 excellent receptions, while Noel Kampton and JM Ronquillo added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.
Jessie Rubin contributed eight points, while Angelo Lipata added six points and 15 excellent receptions for UP.
This is the Green Spikers' fourth-straight win as they move to 5-1 in the standings, tied with National University and Far Eastern University, while the Fighting Maroons have yet to win a game in the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the first game, NU grabbed its fifth-straight win after ramping past University of the East, 25-23, 25-13, 25-12.
After a close first set, the Bulldogs went on to dominate the Red Warriors for a comfortable win.
Rwenzmel Taguibolos was hailed the Player of the Game after finishing with 13 points on 5-of-5 attacks, seven blocks, and one ace.
Jade Disquitado and Nico Almedras added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Angelo Reyes, meanwhile, supplied 10 points as UE remains winless in six matches.
