Despite being rushed to the hospital after the game against the UST Golden Tigresses, Angel Canino returned to DLSU and led the Lady Spikers against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
The DLSU Lady Spikers continued their winning tradition over old-age rival Ateneo Blue Eagles with a sweeping win, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, in their second round encounter at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
Angel Canino returned to action after a brief health scare when she was rushed to the hospital right after their game over the weekend against UST because of an inadvertent run-in with Shevana Laput. She finished with 16 points, seven excellent digs, and six excellent receptions.
Improving to 7-3, La Salle tightened their hold on No. 2 behind NU’s 9-1.
La Salle rebounded from a slow start when they were down 2-7 against the Blue Eagles in Set 3.
But Canino, along with Laput who finished the game with 14 points, steadied the ship thanks to the playmaking skills of Mikole Reyes who finished with 19 excellent sets and one point.
Meanwhile, Ateneo, who saw their three-game win streak snapped, were paced by AC Miner’s 13 points.
Lyann De Guzman finished with a double-double of 10 points and 14 excellent receptions.
The Blue Eagles fall to 4-6.
After the win, La Salle has now won 16 straight games against Ateneo in their head-to-head matchup.
