Jonna Perdido stays ready when called upon in the clutch as she sealed the UST Golden Tigresses's win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, March 20
The University of Santo Tomas once again turned to Jonna Perdido to deliver in the clutch.
And the the lefty outside hitter was more that happy to oblige, delivering back-to-back attacks to seal the Golden Tigresses' thrilling five-set victory over Ateneo de Manila University, keeping the team undefeated at 8-0.
"Para sa akin, kinapitan lang talaga and pumalag lang kami hanggang dulo," Perdido said during the post-game press conference.
Perdido finished the match with 17 points on 11 attacks, five blocks, and one service. She also had nine excellent receptions and seven excellent digs.
For Perdido, her goal was simple during the fifth set---to bounce back after a subpar performance in the fourth set which Ateneo stole from UST.
"Siguro 'yung nasa isip ko is bumawi kasi parang 'yung set four parang na-off ako tas binalik ako sa loob and inisip ko na kailangan ko mag-contribute sa team kasi kailangan talaga ako ng mga teammates ko," said Perdido.
Amid the hard-fought victory, coach Kungfu Reyes lauded his team's effort to battle throughout the match, emphasizing another lesson learned for the young Golden Tigresses squad.
"Iba-iba 'yung kwento every game though iisa 'yung resulta. Dun sa mga kwento na 'yun marami kaming learning nakukuha," said Reyes. "So, aside dun sa win na nakuha namin, mas marami pa kaming naga-gain aside dun sa win, so nagpa-patong patong lang mga learnings namin."
UST will look to put its learnings from this game in the upcoming heavyweight match against National University on Sunday, March 24 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 4:00 p.m.
