Angel Canino shook off any doubts about her fitness as she suited up for action for DLSU in their clash with Ateneo on Wednesday.

Canino ended up with 16 points in a three-set victory, just days after suffering an inadvertent neck injury due to a collision with DLSU teammate Shevana Laput during their game against UST last weekend.

After complaining of dizziness late in their game against UST, it seems like the former UAAP Rookie MVP is back right where she left off, when she nabbed Player of the Game honors in that 5-set battle against UST with her 27 points.

“I’m doing really good and I’m better na po,” said Canino.

The UAAP champion said that she was given the okay by doctors to play, as she started all sets for Coach Ramil de Jesus. After taking the necessary precautions, it’s full send from Canino.

“Binigyan din naman ako ng go signal and nagpahinga rin talaga ako. Kung anong kailangan na protocol sinunod ko lang.” she said.

Though it was a big relief that Canino was able to get back on her feet as quickly as she did, Canino was happy to find that her teammates are now more proactive in terms of finding other ways to score. When there are more options for La Salle, Canino says, it makes them all the more dangerous.

“Kung maging effective 'yung lahat at nakikita na nakakapatay ang lahat, mas lalong nakakalito for other teams na bantayan kami so I think that’s a positive note din sa team namin na kaya namin patuloy tuloy na but at the same time nga, we’re not looking sa attacks lang kasi sa game,” said Canino.

“Sa lahat ng aspeto kailangan pa rin namin i-improve 'yun. Paunti-unti sa mga training po namin nakukuha naman paunti-unti.” she added.

Currently, the Lady Spikers are looking good in their quest for the Final Four, and hopefully a semifinals bonus, as they are currently 7-3 and are in solo second.

La Salle faces the listless UE Lady Warriors next to hopefully rake in more wins to get ahead of their title rivals when they face off on Saturday, April 5, still here at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
