Alas Pilipinas holdover Angel Canino is one of four La Salle players in the PNVF’s 33-player pool for upcoming competitions this year.
Angel Canino is the biggest believer in her teammates as three other DLSU Lady Spikers were named to the 33-player wishlist of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) for its upcoming competitions this year.
Canino, one of a handful of holdovers from the national team in Jorge De Brito’s list, is joined by Amie Provido, Alleiah Malaluan, and Shevana Lpaut in the selection expected to be the backbone of the lineups for three tournaments slated later this year.
After a 16-point outing against Ateneo in what is now back-to-back wins for La Salle in the second round, Canino bared her thoughts on sharing the national team spotlight with her teammates.

“Siyempre, sobrang happy. Proud din ako sa kanila kasi pinaghirapan nila 'yan hanggang sa mapasama sila sa wishlist. Masaya rin kasi makakasama ko sila sa national team,” said Canino.
“Alam ko rin kasi 'yung capabilities nila as a player and as an athlete. So 'yon, sobrang happy ako na kasama ko na sila.”
For Canino, stepping up as leaders proved pivotal for her teammates’ growth as they were thrust into “ate” roles with the Lady Spikers following the exit of players who’ve turned pro like Thea Gagate, Juju Coronel, and Leila Cruz.
A witness to their skills from the get-go, it’s a happy sight for Canino to see.
“Sila ate Alleiah, Shevana, at Amie, bigla kasi sila naging leader inside the court so malaking step 'yon para sa kanila. What I'm happy about is pinanghawakan nila 'yung role at pinandidigan nila. Gusto nila maging leader sa loob. 'Yon 'yung isa sa pinakamalaking improvement nila sa loob ng court,” said the third year spiker.
As for how she’s feeling about a potential return to Alas Pilipinas, Canino is more than excited to reunite with her teammates, whom she already shared a bond with last year.

“Looking forward kay ate Sisi [Rondina], kay ate Eya [Laure], si Arah [Panique], at siyempre gusto ko rin makasama si ate Aly Solomon, si ate Bella Belen, at si ate Jia [De Guzman], gusto ko rin ulit makasama si ate Jia hindi lang dahil sa pagiging leader niya sa loob ng court, kundi sobra sobra 'yung pagmamahal niya at mararamdaman mo 'yung leadership niya sa labas ng court.” she said.
The 33-player list will be used to determine the lineups for the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup, the SEA V.League, and the Southeast Asian Games.
