Gilas was business as usual on Tuesday.
Kai Sotto was still nowhere to be found on Tuesday night at the Meralco Gym.
Sotto, who is coming off an NBA Summer League stint with the Orlando Magic, was expected to show up in Gilas Pilipinas’ practice on Tuesday. He didn't come.
Speaking to reporters, coach Chot Reyes bared the 7-foot-3 wunderkind will arrive on Thursday instead.
“Last we heard, it’s Thursday naman daw,” Reyes said. “Like I said, unless he’s here, he’ll be here when he’ll be here.”
It's not clear whether Sotto can join practice right away, though. In his last game against the Boston Celtics, Sotto suffered from back pains.
Still, there was a lot to be happy about in Tuesday’s practice. The seasoned tactician said he likes what he sees so far from his wards.
“We like the energy, [they’re] very focused. We’re able to work on a couple of different things in our transition and defense,” he said.
Now, it is about getting reinforcements in time for Gilas' trip to China, where they will be playing tune-up games versus FIBA World Cup-bound nations Iran, Lebanon, and Senegal.
