Paalam keeps himself motivated in his goal of a winning Olympic gold.
Following his successful Southeast Asian (SEA) Games stint, Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam is vying to qualify for another run in the Olympics in Paris, France next year.
Paalam mostly dominated his opponents in Cambodia as he won his second straight gold medal in the men’s 54 kg boxing division.
But despite winning the gold medal in the SEA Games, along with the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics and a bronze in the Asian Games in 2018, Paalam is keeping himself leveled
“Sinasabi ko 'yung record na iniisip ko palagi na silver medalist sa Olympics, Asian Games bronze medalist... bina-back to zero ko 'yun,” Paalam told Noli Eala on Power & Play.
So, where does the 24-year-old boxer get his motivation? Well, it’s simple for Paalam.
“‘Yung iniisip ko palagi 'yung paano ako nag-start ng boxing,” said Paalam. “‘Yung hirap, dun ako kumukuha ng lakas sa sarili ko na hindi ko iniisip 'yung yaman.”
There’s another motivation for Paalam to go all-out in his bid to qualify for the Paris Olympiad.
“Soon, makapasok sana sa Paris,” said Paalam. “‘Yun talaga 'yung number 1 na pangarap ko kasi parang gift ko din sa baby ko soon na lalabas po.”
Definitely, qualifying for the biggest sporting tournament in the world will be a great gift to Paalam’s soon-to-be bundle of joy, who will be born around June, according to the Talakag, Bukidnon native.
Then, an Olympic gold in 2024 will be that much sweeter.
