The Philippines' campaign in the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia started late Tuesday evening with two Filipina weightlifters missing the podium.

2024 Paris Olympics prospect Rosegie Ramos finished in seventh place in the 49-kilogram [kg] category while her teammate Lovely Inan placed third to the last among 40 contenders.

The 19-year-old Ramos cleared a total of 188 kg behind an 86 lift in snatch and a 102 clearance in clean and jerk. Her total is 27 kg lighter than the gold medal-winning score of China's Hiuhua Jiang.

Meanwhile, Inan ended with an incomplete lift after failing to clear in snatch before tallying 106 in clean and jerk.

The World Weightlifting Championships is one of the requirement tournaments to qualify for the Olympics. The top 10 athletes via the Olympic qualifying ranking at the end of the qualification period in April 2024 will get a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

Five more Filipinos are slated to compete in the contest, including Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
