The 6-foot guard is the next Filipino hooper looking to make a mark in the US.
It looks like everything’s going Andy Gemao’s way so far.
The NCAA Season 98 Juniors Finals MVP is trying to pursue the NBA dream, first by trying out for a spot at the Veritas Academy National Prep in California.
Check out this latest post by A Skillz Basketball, where Gemao nails a spin move for a fastbreak bucket.
Another clip, a longer one, shows the athletic guard taking part in creating the offense while making stops on defense.
It does seem like Gemao is a kid who belongs on that stage.
While it’s only a few clips and a singular highlight, it only raises hopes that the 17-year-old might be on the road to continuing his young basketball career with the US high school team.
Hours after arriving in California, Gemao had a work out with Golden State Warriors superstar Klay Thompson, who recently visited Manila and revealed he watches the PBA.
The young NCAA champion is honing his skills with Charlie Max Torres, more popularly known as Bucketsworth, who is incidentally Thompson’s skills coach.
To say that the trajectory of the high-flying Gemao’s basketball career is promising is an understatement.
Apart from leading Letran Squires to the NCAA championship, the high school phenom made waves in the NBTC early this year where the top prospects in the country converged. He was ranked fourth among 24 standouts.
He also got an invite to the Basketball Without Borders Asia where he was included in the all-star squad.
But he’s far from done.
Gemao is hopeful this opportunity with the Nike Elite High School in California will catapult his career to greater heights.
