Japanese star Ran Takahashi has been ruled out of the rest of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Manila leg.

Japan Volleyball Association announced the development on Friday, June 21.

The Japanese national team has yet to disclose the details surrounding Takahashi’s situation.

In light of the renowned outside hitter’s absence, Shoma Tomita will step in as his replacement, starting with the match against the Netherlands on Friday night.

Takahashi suited up for Ryujin Nippon in a five-set loss to Canada last Tuesday, June 18, where he finished with 13 points built on nine attacks, two blocks, and two service aces.

Aside from the match against the Netherlands, Japan, which holds a 6-3 record for seventh place, is set to face France on Saturday and USA on Sunday to wrap up its preliminary round campaign.
