Strong Group-Pilipinas leaned on a hot start to beat Chinese Taipei White and move to a win away from a 43rd William Jones Cup trophy.
Strong Group-Pilipinas didn’t need long to get their bearings going in their 96-70 drubbing of Chinese Taipei-White in the 43rd William Jones Cup at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium on Saturday, July 20.
Before sitting out the final minutes of the one-sided affair, Chris McCullough battered the home team with 25 points and six rebounds.
Kiefer Ravena tallied 14 points built on two triples, while Ginebra draftee RJ Abarrientos had 13 points and six assists. Derrick Fenner and Jordan Heading added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for nice team effort for Strong Group.
Riding the crest of four triples in the curtain raiser, Strong Group-Pilipinas zoomed to a 30-15 advantage they never relinquished to claim a seventh straight win, moving on the doorstep of a Jones Cup conquest.
That lead ballooned to 34 points, 69-35, after Jordan Heading nailed a booming three-pointer at the 6:34 mark of the third period.
Strong Group simply cruised from there and went on to preserve a pristine 7-0 win-loss record in the annual tourney.
Zhang Jiahe paced the home team with 16 points, while Lin Yanting contributed 12.
Strong Group will wrap up its Jones Cup campaign at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 against Chinese Taipei-Blue.
