How Filipino imports welcomed the New Year in the 2024-25 Korean Basketball League season.
MANILA, Philippines — SJ Belangel returned from injury on New Year’s Eve as he made waves in a tough loss by the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus against the Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 88-81, on Tuesday at the Dongchun Gymnasium.
After a short rest due to injury, Belangel hit the ground running with 23 points, one rebound, and three assists but couldn’t tow the Pegasus to the victory as they now fell four games behind league leaders Seoul SK Knights.
The KOGAS are at 13-10 for the year.
Elsewhere on New Year’s Day, Gomez de Liaño brothers Javi and Juan played sparingly in their respective team’s games in contrasting results.
Juan, for his part, played just seven minutes and finished with one rebound as the SK Knights nipped the Changwon LG Sakers, 77-74.
The SK Knights are winners of two in a row and improved to 17-6. Changwon’s Filipino import Carl Tamayo did not play due to injury.
In the other game, Javi’s Anyang KGC skidded to their 6th straight loss as they fell in a close game against the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 62-59, at the Anyang Gymnasium.
Javi finished with just three points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal as his team fell to 7-17.
Goyang, who will be welcoming two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao to the team soon, are now at 9-15.
