Justin Gutang rode the coattails of Jameel Warney’s monster double-double en route to a big win by KBL Mong Team over Team Gong Aji, 142-126, during KBL’s All-Star Game at the Busan Sajik Gymnasium on Sunday.

Gutang, who was among three Filipinos represented in the All-Star game, had six points, one rebound, and one assist in his nine minutes on the floor in the exhibition match as he represented the Seoul Samsung Thunders.

He was tapped as a replacement player just earlier this month for the All-Star game, but made sure to make his mark with a highlight play in the game.

Warney had the lion’s share of points with a whopping 41 points to lead his team to victory. He was also highly efficient at 17-of-20 from the field.

The Seoul SK Knights big man also had 19 boards to make it a double-double for himself, dishing out five assists and getting two steals as well.

On the other end, Ethan Alvano and SJ Belangel eked out double-digit scoring nights for Gong Aji in the losing effort.

Alvano, who plays for Wonju DB Promy and is the reigning KBL MVP, had 19 markers to his name in 30 minutes of action. He also had five rebounds, eight assists, and a steal.

Daegu KOGAS’ Belangel, for his part, had 10 points, three assists, and one steal.

Shawn Long paced Gong Aji with 28 points on 14 shots and only one miss.

KBL Mong Team outscored their foes in the second quarter, 41-31, to create distance in the high-scoring All-Star matchup.
