Two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao returned to action as a starter, following a three-game absence due to injury for the Goyang Sono Skygunners.
Kevin Quiambao restarted his professional career in the KBL as he returned from a three-game absence due to injury Tuesday. However, the two-time UAAP MVP couldn’t help the Goyang Sono SkyGunners to the win, falling to the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters, 94-69, at the Goyang Gymnasium.
Quiambao tweaked his ankle during his debut game earlier this month and missed more than two weeks with his new KBL club. Initially pegged to return on February 7, KQ cut his recovery time in half to rejoin the Skygunners.
Despite the loss, Quiambao was able to impact the team immediately in his return.
The former La Salle star finished with 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists as he was inserted into the starting lineup for Goyang.
Still, it was not enough as the SkyGunners fell flat in the second half, where they were outscored by foes, 43-26.
Quiambao was 5-of-15 from the field.
Alpha Kaba was the top scorer for Goyang with 16 markers. However, the SkyGunners are still on a free fall, skidding to their third straight loss. They are now at 10-23 for the season.
Meanwhile, Anyang leaned on Deonte Burton as the Red Boosters now extend their win streak to three. He had 24 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Filipino import Javi Gomez de Liaño hardly made his presence felt with one rebound in six minutes of action.
Anyang is at 11-23 for the season.
Elsewhere, SJ Belangel’s 21 points were not enough as the Daegu KOGAS fell to the KCC Egis, 87-81.
Despite his high-scoring game, Belangel struggled with efficiency as he was 7-of-20 from the field.
Cady Lalanne paced KCC in the victory with a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards.
Daegu fell to 18-14, while KCC improved to 15-17 with today’s results.
