A year after Capital1’s entry to the PVL, team owners Milka and Mandy Romero now take their passion to football with the arrival of the Solar Strikers in the PFF Women’s League.
From the taraflex and now to the football pitch.
Businesswomen Milka and Mandy Romero are now bracing for a new challenge with the arrival of the Capital1 Solar Strikers in the PFF Women's League.
This marked the second sport for the Romero sisters to handle after the Solar Spikers in Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
For Mandy, the latest move showed their all-out commitment to empowering women through sports while showing excitement in their newfound venture.
“That’s why we’re stepping into professional women’s football—not just to build a team, but to be part of the movement pushing women’s sports forward,” the daughter of renowned sportsman Mikee Romero said.
She added: “Hopefully, our dream is for football to be as big as a sport just like basketball and volleyball.”
Led by Dimzon, a multi-titled tactician with the FEU Lady Booters on top of bannering Kaya FC to the 2023 PFF Women’s League title, the Solar Strikers are eager to make a splash in their debut season.
Making up for the squad are local bets Judie Arevalo, Yasmin Elauria, Regine Rebosura, Hazel Lustan, and Lyka Teves with foreign players Emma Young and Arianna Del Moral also in the mix.
A three-time First-Team All-GSC honoree, Young takes the lead in the defensive flank as Coach Dimzon will have a former 2021 GSC Defensive Player of the Year on his back end. Del Moral, meanwhile, boasts a versatile play in the midfield position behind a vast wealth of experience playing in the U,.S and Maltese football leagues.
“We’re here for the long run. Building the chemistry and developing our players to play at the highest level of football. With coach Let (Dimzon), we’re really excited about how war we would go,” Mandy told One Sports.
It was also a full circle moment for Milka, a former co-captain of the Ateneo women's football team, who is now managing her own team from the sport she grew up playing.
“Sports are really part of our DNA. It has always been my dream to give back to the football community that helped shape me in the past 20 years of being an athlete,” the former footballer bared.
