From March 1 to 2, the majestic FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy will be in the country for the Philippine leg of its worldwide tour. The trophy visit aims to inspire people of all ages while promoting the biggest event in the women’s game. The public viewing of the crown jewel will be held on March 1st at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

According to Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta, seeing the trophy up close is a big deal considering that Philippine National Women’s Football team is gearing up for its historic appearance at the World Cup this July.

“We are delighted to welcome the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy in Manila as the excitement continues to build up for the Filipinas’ debut in the most prestigious women’s football tournament in the world,” Mariano said.

“We invite all football fans and stakeholders to come and visit the trophy when it arrives here to see women’s football’s prize,” the PFF head added.

Along with the public viewing, mini-games like freestyle football, penalty shootouts, and skills challenges are included in the tour’s Manila stop. Of course, fans can also have their pictures taken with the actual trophy as the backdrop.

But getting near to a World Cup trophy isn’t just about taking photos. PFF secretary general Atty. Edwin Gastanes believes the event serves a bigger purpose. One that the youth should benefit from.

“We hope that the upcoming trophy tour would inspire Filipino football fans and players, especially young women’s players nationwide,” Gastanes said.

After qualifying for the Worlds last year, the Filipinas will get a chance to claim the top accolade starting on July 20 in New Zealand.
