Lim Si-hyeon shot a stunning 694 in the women's individual ranking round in archery Thursday, July 25, to set new world and Olympic records in Paris 2024.

The World No. 2 Lim eclipsed the previous marks set by her countrywomen  the 692 logged by Kang Chae-young at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands in 2019 and the 680 set by An San at the Games in Tokyo 2020.

Lim thus kept South Korea on track in its bid to sustain its dominance in the sport at the Games, as it eyes to add another in its Olympic-best 43 medal haul of 27 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes.

 

The women actually ruled the team event since its introduction in Seoul in 1988. The country is gunning for is 10th consecutive gold medal in the women's team category and 10th in the individual division.

Lim topped the ranking round, going six points clear of fellow South Korean Nam Suhyeon, who registered a personal best of 688 points. 

World No. 1 Casey Kaufhold of the US trails behind at fourth with her 672 tally, just one point shy of China's Yang Xiaolei who sat at third.

Lim did not just achieve personal glory but, together with Nam and 13th-placer compatriot Jeon Hunyoung, likewise set another Olympic record with their team's combined 2046 points. They erased the previous best of 2,032 which their country logged in Tokyo.

Lim and the South Korean squad will be the top seeds in the individual and women's team events, respectively. Lim will also see action in the mixed team division.
