Nesthy Petecio is already assured of a medal regardless of the outcome. But she wants the Olympic Games Paris 2024 gold.
Nesthy Petecio has sent a bold message she is out to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 women’s boxing.
This was after schooling her last three foes — India’s Jaismine Lamboria, China’s Zichun Xu, and France’s Amina Zidani — to set up a semifinal clash against Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the 57kg class.
Save for the bout against the hometown bet, Petecio definitely dominated all matches.
That’s why Petecio is a favorite against the 20-year-old Szeremeta.
The gold-seeking Filipina from Davao del Sur is expected to put up a clinic against the Polish figher at 3:46am on Thursday, August 8 (PH Time) at the Roland Garros Stadium in the French capital.
But Petecio is not letting up, especially with the shot at the gold medal on the line.
After all, Szeremeta is a no-nonsense pugilist who scored a couple of unanimous decisions en route to the penultimate stage.
She opened her Olympic campaign with a split deicision win (4-1) against Carolina Ven Alcala Cegovia of Venuezuela and has been spectacular since then.
While both are already assured of a medal, there’s no way these two fighters will settle for less come gametime.
“Walang hinto hangga’t walang ginto. So dalawa na lang. So hopefully makuha na natin this time,” Petecio said in a previous interview with Cignal TV's Carlo Pamintuan.
