San Miguel pulled off an escape act against Meralco in Game 2 to tie the best-of-seven series, giving Terrence Romeo more time to recover from his injury.
“Gigil na gigila talaga ako.”
This was what San Miguel star guard Terrence Romeo said in the aftermath of the Beermen’s 95-94 squeaker over Meralco in Game 2 of the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup Finals on Friday, June 7.
That’s because Romeo has been reduced to a cheerleader in the ongoing best-of-seven finale that is now tied at one game apiece owing to a strain on his right calf.
The high-scoring guard suffered the injury in Game 4 of their conquest of Rain or Shine in the semifinals.
“Na-sustain ko injury nung Game 4 ng semis. Nagpa-MRI ako tsaka ultra sound, nakita nga na may strain,” said Romeo after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
There’s still pain on his calf, added Romeo.
“Pag naglalakad ako, or tumatalon ako masakit pa e. Gustng gusto ko maglaro. Grabe. Sobrang gusto kong makatulong sa team. Gigil na gigil talaga ako,” said the former UAAP Most Valuable Player, who was averaging over 12.3 points for the Beermen in the Philippine Cup in 17 games off the bench.
Now Romeo is hopeful he will regain his full strength next week.
“So day-to-day basis ako. Sabi ng doctor two to three weeks para mag fully heal. Kailangan ko pa mag strengthening after,” he said.
“Pero ginagawa ko best ko na makahabol. Ngayon malaking bagay na nanalo kami, naka buy ako ng time.”
