June Mar Fajardo did not forget to say good words about San Miguel's conquered foe, Converge, in Game 5 of the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup quarterfinals.
June Mar Fajardo tipped his hat to Converge even as his squad, San Miguel, won the do-or-die Game 5 of their quarterfinal duel in the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Fajardo needed to elevate his game in the final 6:38 to bail the Beermen out of trouble after the multititled squad trailed the FiberXers, 91-99.
The eight-time Most Valuable Player poured seven points in that crucial stretch to highlight his 40-point, 24-rebound night for San Miguel.
"Malakas ang Converge. Hindi puwedeng basta-bastang balewalain,” Fajardo said.
Converge proved doubters wrong after snatching Games 3 and 4 in the best-of-five contest which was initially thought to be a walk in the park for the 29-time champion San Miguel.
With import Jalen Jones, Alec Stockton and Justin Arana leading an inspired uprising in the series, the FiberXers had a legitimate chance to book its first semifinal ticket.
Converge actually landed third in Group A at the end of the elimination round despite still missing the services of top overall pick Justin Baltazar, who is finishing his MPBL season with Pampanga.
“Sobrang bilis nila. Kumpleto sila. May bigs sila tapos may shooters sila,” Fajardo went on.
“Magiging contender siguro 'yung Converge in the future,” he added.
