The UP Fighting Maroons overcame a late scare from the FEU Tamaraws to secure an 86-78 victory in UAAP Season 87 men's basketball at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Saturday.
UP led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter but had to hold off a furious FEU comeback, with the Tamaraws pulling within three in the final minute.
JD Cagulangan came to the rescue, sinking a clutch three-pointer with 27.6 seconds remaining before icing the game with free throws.
Already assured of a Final Four spot, UP improved to 10-3 and will face UE in their final elimination game.
Gerry Abadiano starred for the Fighting Maroons, earning Player of the Game honors with 19 points, including six triples, and four rebounds.
FEU ended their season at 5-9, officially bowing out of the Final Four race despite a spirited effort.
